Brett Lee, a former Australian international cricketer, has donated one Bitcoin (worth roughly $54,000 today) to the so-termed “Crypto Relief” fund aimed at helping Indian hospitals to fight the coronavirus pandemic.
“It saddens me deeply to see people suffering due to the ongoing pandemic. I feel privileged to be in a position of making a difference and with that in mind, I’d like to donate 1 BTC (Bitcoin) to Crypto Relief to help with the purchase of oxygen supplies for the hospitals across India,” Lee said in a Twitter post on Tuesday.

Bitcoin for India
In his statement, Lee noted that he decided to follow the example of his colleague and countryman Pat Cummins—who similarly donated $50,000 to the PM Cares Fund on Monday. Cummins’s donation will be used to buy oxygen supplies for India’s hospitals that are overwhelmed amid a disastrous second wave of the coronavirus pandemic.
“As players, we are privileged to have a platform that allows us to reach millions of people that we can use for good. With that in mind, I have made a contribution to the ‘PM Cares Fund,’ specifically to purchase oxygen supplies for India’s hospitals,” Cummins tweeted.

As CryptoSlate reported, cryptocurrency holders and developers across the world are actively chiming in to help India tackle the outbreak. Over the past weekend, for example, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin donated over $640,000 worth of ETH and MKR tokens to the local Crypto Relief fund.
This is amazing !!!!!

Today, inspired by Lee’s and Cummins’s donations, the Estonian Cricket Association also made a crypto donation of 0.027 Bitcoin (around $1,500) to help Indian hospitals.
Inspired from [Brett Lee] and [Pat Cummins], the Estonian Cricket Association is proud to be able to make a contribution where it is needed most,” the organization tweeted.
At press time, the Indian Crypto Relief has already received just over $3 million worth of digital assets, according to its website.
