They may have come second to FC Shakhtar Donetsk in the last season of the Ukrainian Premier League, but Ukrainian favourites Dynamo Kiev are hoping to get in first when it comes to selling match tickets as non-fungible tokens (NFTs).

The club’s crypto decision, announced Friday, is timed to coincide with the launch of Binance’s upcoming NFT marketplace in June. Tickets for Dynamo Kiev’s games will be sold on Binance’s marketplace by the end of next month.

The deal “is not just fad chasing,” said Dynamo’s head of innovation, Mark Ginsburg, in a statement. “We have a well-calculated strategy and a clear goal over the next two years to make Ukraine’s best club the technological leader European football.”

The club hopes that over 25% of their future tickets for home games will be sold as NFTs, but did not provide a date by which it aims to achieve this.

Dynamo’s NFT tickets are tokenized by fintech company Moonwalk. Back in January 2021, Moonwalk announced it had partnered with the club to create an entire economy around cryptocurrencies, including a club-branded token, prizes, bonuses and games.

Several soccer teams have already put out their own cryptocurrency tokens through deals with tokenization platform Socios. Manchester City’s $CITY token was the most recent addition to the Socios roster, which includes such top-tier clubs as Juventus, AC Milan, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.
