Revolut has launched “New Token Tuesdays”, an initiative whereby new tokens will be added to its crypto offering every Tuesday.
The first 8 new tokens were added today, Tuesday 1 June 2021, and join the 21 already supported in the app.
Today’s release includes eight new Network and Oracle tokens, namely:
- ATOM,
- NKN,
- MATIC,
- ALGO,
- CELO,
- BAND,
- LINK,
- TRB
They will be available in Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the UK.
In the coming weeks, every Tuesday Revolut will add more cryptocurrencies, and each launch will be accompanied by new educational content, which is a series of articles on basic cryptocurrency concepts.
Revolut now has 15 million customers worldwide, and the addition of new tokens is a response to customer demand.
Revolut‘s Head of Crypto, Ed Cooper, said:
“We are very proud and excited about New Token Tuesdays, and we believe our customers will be too. We look forward to announcing the new launches in the coming weeks.
Revolut believes in expanding access to cryptocurrencies but warns that these tools may not be appropriate for everyone. The company encourages its customers to research the various cryptocurrencies and associated risks and opportunities before buying or selling.
New Token Tuesdays, the first ones added on Revolut
Speaking of the new tokens added today, ATOM is the Cosmos Hub token, which is a decentralized network of independent parallel blockchains that form an ecosystem of blockchains that can scale and interact with each other.
NKN, on the other hand, is the token for New Kind of Network, a new generation of highly scalable, self-evolving and self-incentivized blockchain infrastructure that tokenizes network connectivity and data transmission capacity through a new Proof of Work.
MATIC is Polygon’s token, a protocol and framework for creating and connecting Ethereum-compatible blockchain networks, while ALGO is Algorand’s cryptocurrency.
Celo is a complete stack of new blockchain software that allows anyone with a smartphone to access financial services, send money to phone numbers and pay merchants.
In addition to these five tokens in the “Network” category, three more were listed in the “Oracle” category.
The first two are LINK from ChainLink, a decentralized oracle network that aims to connect smart contracts with real-world data, and BAND from Band Protocol, a high-performance public blockchain that allows smart contracts to make requests via APIs to services available on the traditional web.
The third is Tellor’s TRB, a community of token holders, data providers and permissionless validators that protect real-world data by putting it on-chain.
