Burger King accepts Dogecoin as a means of payment in Brazil for a promotional initiative.

CNN Brasil reports that Burger King announced yesterday that it will accept DOGE as payment for its grilled meat-flavoured dog biscuit, Dogpper.

The biscuit will cost 3 DOGE, or about 3 Brazilian reals, with the aim of linking the dog product to the cryptocurrency that has a dog as its brand.

In fact, Burger King’s advertising campaign reads: “What’s the best way to pay for a product aimed at dogs? Dogecoin, of course.

In order to use this payment method, it will be necessary to access a specific page on the company’s official website, and follow a few steps, including checking the availability of the service in your region, choosing the quantity of biscuits you want to buy, and sending DOGE directly to the restaurant’s wallet, which will deliver the purchased biscuits to your door.

This is therefore a promotional online sale, with a clear propaganda purpose, and it will not be possible to use Dogecoin to buy other products or pay at physical restaurants.

It also seems that the promotion will only last for a week, and that the entire amount collected will be donated to animal welfare NGOs, thanks to a partnership with Petlove.

Dogpper is a product that will be sold for a limited time, and for now only in Brazil.

The fact that the proceeds of Dogecoin will be donated to charity means that the company will not use the DOGE collected, but will probably simply pass them on to Petlove.

So this is really a purely advertising initiative, exploiting the popularity of the dog cryptocurrency to promote a time-limited sales promotion. We will probably have to wait and see whether or not the restaurant chain will decide to accept DOGE anywhere and for any kind of purchase in the future.
