Coca Cola has created and auctioned its first NFTs on OpenSea. The auction opens on the same day as International Friendship Day, 30 July

According to reports, the American multinational beverage giant appears to have entered the explosive crypto sector dedicated to collectible tokens, aka NFTs, to auction off its first collectibles.

The auction will run for exactly four days, starting on 30 July at 12:01 PM UTC and ending on 2 August at 8:00 PM UTC. The proceeds will be donated to Special Olympics International, a friend and partner of Coca Cola for more than 50 years.

In this regard, Selman Careaga president of Global Coca Cola Trademark said:

“Coca-Cola is one of the most collectible brands in the world, sharing its rich heritage with consumers through simple moments of joy for decades. We are excited to share our first NFTs with the metaverse where new friendships are being forged in new ways in new worlds, in celebration of International Friendship Day and in support of our longstanding friend and partner, Special Olympics. Each NFT was created to celebrate elements that are core to the Coca-Cola brand reinterpreted for a virtual world in new and exciting ways”.

Specifically, the new Coca Cola NFTs are inspired by shared moments of friendship, and were created in collaboration with developer Tafi, the leading creator of custom 3D content for avatars and emoji systems.

Coca Cola’s signature NFT Friendship Box auction

Auction participants can bid on the Coca Cola Friendship Box NFT, a reinterpreted version of Coca Cola’s collectible vending machine, and once opened there will be three additional NFTs or unique digital goods:

  • A personalized Coca Cola Bubble Jacket Wearable.
  • The Friendship Card
  • A surprise that will be revealed to the winner

It is a futuristic, bubble-lit jacket, specially designed with subtle nods to nostalgic Coca Cola delivery uniforms. It can be unlocked in another version to be worn on Decentraland.

The Friendship Card is a design of the famous Coca Cola trading cards inspired by the friendship of the 1940s.

NFT auctions dedicated to charitable operations

Coca Cola’s mission for this auction of its first NFTs is entirely charitable, wanting to dedicate the proceeds to a great friend: the Special Olympics International.

Something similar was proposed directly by His Holiness Pope Francis, collaborating with the creation of NFTs that were auctioned on AkoinNFT. The proceeds of the auction were, in fact, dedicated to the pope’s charity, the Scholas Occurrentes Foundation.

Meanwhile, this week another NFT auction has been set up in honour of a less premeditated charity, the proceeds of which will be dedicated to the ONLUS ‘Effetto Palla’ of Oristano for animals in the area of Sardinia affected by last week’s fires. Specifically, the authors of the charity auction are the cultural association The AB Factory, together with Antonio Marras and HACKATAO.
