The UN has selected the NFT marketplace to inspire others on how to take action against climate change, working with Unique Network, the blockchain platform that will host the initiative.
According to reports, the United Nations seems to have found the blockchain solution in Non-Fungible Tokens for the programme dedicated to fighting climate change.
And indeed, Digital Art for Climate Action Empowerment, or DigitalArt4Climate, is the name of the new plan that involves the work of young artists in creating new NFT ART to inspire people to find better solutions for the environment.
In this sense, the announcement reads:
“The United Nations has recognized NFT technology as a unique new medium for creative expression that can help amplify messages about climate action. The U.N. wants to bring this innovative art form to the next generation of creators who stand to benefit from a technology that can help them amplify and monetize their work”.
The NFT marketplace chosen for the UN plan is Unique Network, a project based on Polkadot and Kusama. While the expected opening date for contributions is 12 August 2021.

“We’re so proud to have been selected as the exclusive blockchain Partner for UNHabitat’s NFT Climate Initiative to empower young artists, designers, & activists to take climate action in line with the UN’s SDGs”.
The recent project based on Polkadot and Kusama had raised $4.3 million in pre-sale last May 2021 to launch an NFT infrastructure on these two blockchains.
By exploring other blockchains than Ethereum and Binance Smart Chain, Unique Network aims to solve some of the existing problems in the NFT market, such as high fees and speed. Thus, new NFTs against climate change could be issued using Polkadot and Kusama.
