The remake of the 1984 film Dune will be released theatrically in the United States in October, which will be accompanied by the launch of an exclusive NFT collection in collaboration with  iv gallery, Lineage Studios, and MakersPlace.

The marketing campaign by Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures includes the first set of the NFT collection that will go live on September 22nd, which will then be followed by further drops in the run up to the film premiere.

James Ngo, EVP of Franchise Management for Legendary Entertainment comments on the NFT drop:

“This collection represents an exciting new direction in the NFT space. We are thrilled to have created a new collectible experience for the fandom by using exclusive assets taken directly from the film to give enthusiasts a whole new way to not only acquire film memorabilia but also further immerse themselves into the world of Dune.”

In a move to attract a younger audience, and a community that is interested in non-fungible tokens, the promotional campaign includes the NFT launch for Dune that will undoubtedly build upon the sci-fi narrative of the adaptation.

Director Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of the 1965 classic is primed to be a blockbuster, with big name actors including Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya. Legendary Pictures shared the video preview of the NFT drop via Twitter, which features portraits of the  iconic characters from the Dune universe and includes a score by Hans Zimmer.

As mainstream art and film ventures increasingly make use of blockchain technologies such as NFTs, the space is attracting a wider audience – one that appeals to a younger demographic that may already be aware of the technology. Nonetheless, the NFT space is still nascent in its development, and while some pundits have argued that it is a saturated market, others view the new developments in blockchain as the perfect opportunity for further creative and technological advancements.
