• Cardano revealed that it is bringing certified DApps to the network.
  • The head of product, Shruti Appiah, said that Cardano will give the details of the new development at the upcoming Summit.

With the help of the Alonzo upgrade, Cardano will now be onboarding smart contracts, decentralized applications (DApps). The deployments of certified DApps to Cardano will mark a significant step for the proof-of-stake blockchain platform. In a blog post, Shruti Appiah, the head of product, smart contract at Input Output (IOHK), published a preview on the new development ahead of the Cardano Summit 2021.

The Cardano Summit 2021 will hold on the 25th and 26th of this month. IOHK said the event would be a blend of live and virtual events from all around the world. The summit is open to all, and registration is free.

Cardano plans to unveil certified DApps at the Cardano Summit

In the blog post, IOHK revealed that the DApps would move Cardano to a new developer community. As such, the developer community will aid Cardano’s advancement to greater heights. Appiah mentioned the two major challenges emerging ecosystems face – Discovery and quality assurance. The IOHK executive explained that users need to find the products before they can use them. And when they eventually find the products, they want to be assured of their quality. Already, the introduction of third-party applications poses a risk of substandard content. Hence, quality assurance will be a relief for users.

IOHK plans to give more explicit information on the subject of quality assurance during the upcoming Cardano summit. To ensure that the blockchain only supports quality products, Cardano will begin a certification program to evaluate applications on its platform. Applications that would be on Cardano’s upcoming dAppStore will go through the assessment process. With the certification program, users are assured of the apps they want to use.

Developers will be able to upload and display their DApps running on Cardano on the dAppStore. The new store under development will allow developers to upload their DApps without the fear of censorship. Apart from the validation, the certification program will enable Cardano to deploy different levels of ‘defense.’ The defense will activate automated logic checks. In addition, manual smart contract auditing will help verify DApp’s integrity.

Cardano’s dAppStore

Basically, the Plutus dAppStore addresses two challenges to entry. The first one is that there is currently no formal discovery process for a DApp. Mainly, users discover DApps through social media or information from people around them. The second barrier the Plutus dAppStore addresses is for end-users.

Furthermore, the Plutus dAppStore will be accessible to users through web browsers. Appiah noted:

Any DApp can exist on the store, whether certified or uncertified, but we will provide users with clear information about a particular DApp’s certification status. The dAppStore seeks not to act as gatekeeper (or judge) but rather to provide a platform for transparent user assessment.
