US cinema giant AMC has announced that it is starting to accept Dogecoin (DOGE) for entry into its cinemas through gift cards, which is the result of a partnership with BitPay.
AMC and Dogecoin
For a few weeks now, the CEO of the world’s largest cinema chain AMC Entertainment Holding Inc, Adam Aron has been wondering whether to include DOGE among the crypto accepted for payments.
And today came the official announcement of the new DOGE and gift card solution on the social network of crypto-lovers, Twitter.
Huge news Dogecoin fans! As we work to accept online crypto payments, now you can buy @AMCTheatres digital gift cards (up to $200 per day) with Dogecoin and other cryptocurrency using a BitPay Wallet. Following the news in mid-September, in which Aron announced that along with Bitcoin, AMC would also accept payments in Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH), AMC’s CEO witnessed the reaction of the huge DOGE community in wanting to see the meme coin integrated as well.
The following week, Aron posted a poll directly on Twitter, inviting his more than 170,000 followers and others to participate. The result was surprising: 68% would vote for the answer “Yes, definitely” (should accept DOGE), compared to 8%, 7% and 16% for the other answers.
AMC, DOGE gift cards and the success of the Dogecoin Community
With today’s announcement of DOGE gift cards, Aron confirms the success of the Dogecoin Community which, with its active participation, has today obtained a way to spend their DOGE to go to the cinema, expanding the adoption of the crypto.
Indeed, Aron’s amazement at the community and its famous supporters was confirmed by his tweets which underline the volume of interest in the crypto meme par excellence.
First and foremost, Aron highlights the presence of the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, the infamous Elon Musk, who has affixed his “like” to the poll, supporting the initiative.
I never thought I would see this day. @ElonMusk liked my Dogecoin Twitter Poll tweet. If you happen to see this tweet too Mr. Musk, congratulations on Tesla and SpaceX. I have strived to be an innovator my entire career, but you sir are the epitome of innovation above all others. pic.twitter.com/rIW6OpOnYL

Furthermore, Aron is honoured by the numbers that his tweet achieved due to the interest of the Dogecoin community:
Your passion for Dogecoin is impressive. Tuesday‘s Dogecoin tweet was my most retweeted, most replied, most liked tweet ever. It’s been read 6.0 million times, more than the population of any of 31 U.S. states! Write this down: AMC’s focused on the opportunity of cryptocurrency. pic.twitter.com/hjpyS4jUbl

The consequences on the price of DOGE
The price of DOGE rose by over 11% immediately after the announcement, hitting $0.269. At the time of writing, the price of the asset has returned to $0.25.
Despite its presence in the top 10 crypto assets by market capitalization, DOGE continues to fluctuate in price, while its rival, the “Dogecoin Killer”, Shiba Inu (SHIB) appears to continue to jump so high that it wants to catch up.
Yesterday, SHIB was up 50% in 24 hours to 35th place, but today SHIB is in 20th place by market capitalization, with a price of $0.000023, up from yesterday’s $0.0000132.
