The leading public chain took to Twitter to announce the official launch of the BitTorrent Chain (BTTC) test network, a layer 2 cross-chain scaling solution compatible with TRON.
BTTC Goes Live
The BitTorrent Chain, which was co-developed by the core teams of BitTorrent and TRON, went live on October 30. The official Twitter handle of the TRON Foundation made the announcement,
“We are excited to announce that BitTorrent Chain (BTTC) is officially launched and the Testnet is live now! A new era of all-chains connection is coming, welcome every developer and the communities to join BTTC!”
Featuring a PoS consensus mechanism and multi-node validation, BTTC supports off-chain matching and smart contract extension through sidechains. Presently it is already compatible with TRON, Ethereum, and Binance Smart Chain (BSC), and will also support HECO and OEC soon. TRON has already allotted $1 billion to fund the migration of projects from Ethereum onto BTTC.
First Heterogeneous Cross-Chain Protocol
As the first heterogenous cross-chain interoperability protocol in the industry, BTTC is sure to be adopted by more public chains. Additionally, it also has the core features of high transmission speed and low transaction costs without compromising on asset security. Unfortunately, most public chain projects in the industry are not interconnected. However, BTTC’s interconnected network with public chains like TRON, Ethereum, and BSC removes informational barriers for a smoother exchange of data and value. Furthermore, its upcoming functionalities on HECO and OEC will solve problems of data isolation among public chains.
TRON Founder Talks Interoperability
In an open letter back in September, TRON founder Justin Sun addressed the community regarding the upcoming launch. He wrote,
“By integrating both a robust underlying network of global settlement layer, and a heterogeneous, scalable cross-chain network BitTorrent Chain that features high throughput and full compatibility with EVM, the TRON network enables smooth communication with the world’s top layer 1 networks such as Ethereum and BSC.”
Elaborating more on the features of the BTTC, Sun talked about the completely decentralized nature of the protocol. A super representative will be elected from the BTTC nodes via voting to earn staking rewards. Once a user becomes the Super Representative on the network, they can earn BTT rewards and participate in community governance.
Sun also mentioned the need to embrace a unified standard for cross-chain protocols to enable complete compatibility with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and pledged a sum of $1 billion to fund the migration of projects from Ethereum to BTTC.
