November 15, 2021 – Zug, Switzerland
Minima, the completely decentralized protocol designed for mobile devices, has reached a new milestone of 7,000 complete nodes, distributed all over the world, in more than 100 countries.
As a result, Minima’s completely decentralized network now has more than half of Bitcoin’s full node count, which currently stands at approximately 11,800 nodes. With the recent growth in network adoption, Minima anticipates launching its mainnet in 2022.
Minima’s brand new consensus mechanism, known as ‘transactional proof-of-work,’ enables all users to run a complete node on their mobile device
as both a validator and a block producer of the chain to ensure everyone is involved in the censorship resistance of the network. This is in contrast to Bitcoin’s ‘full nodes,’ which only validate its chain and therefore, play no part in censorship resistance.
With such an innovative design, Minima aims to become the most decentralized, immutable and scalable protocol on the market, and by doing so, enabling developers to build truly decentralized applications for a growing number of users across a vast range of potential use cases.
Since the Minima network is entirely community-owned and operated, the energy consumption used to secure its network will be decentralized across substantially more network participants than any other blockchain.
This means that users can choose to source their energy in more sustainable ways as the cost of doing so is negligible when compared to centralized mining operations.
Thanks to the Minima incentive program, users can start earning rewards immediately by downloading the Minima app on an Android mobile or running Minima on their PC, Mac, or Linux. Anyone who wants to earn additional Minima coins can also participate as a tester for the app or build a decentralized app for the ecosystem.
The Minima incentive program can be joined by applying to the waiting list.
Hugo Feiler, CEO of Minima, said,
“Minima believes that everyone should be able to run a complete node
to ensure the network remains completely decentralized now and into the future. For this reason, I’m excited to announce 7,000 complete nodes today the first major milestone on our journey toward a million nodes. We are grateful to our community of early users and testers, who are making our mainnet launch in 2022 a reality.”About Minima
Minima was founded in London in 2018. It has created an ultra-lean blockchain protocol that fits on a mobile or IoT device, allowing every user to run a full constructing and validating node. By adopting this approach, Minima has created the possibility of operating a completely decentralized network that is scalable and inclusive, while remaining secure and resilient.
