You are currently viewing Giovanni Motta and his success in the NFT world

Recently the Italian artist Giovanni Motta launched his latest NFT drop on SuperRare, which again sees Jonny Boy as the protagonist, titled Divine Chakra.

In this work, Jonny floats in the sky where he mixes with different objects: a popcorn, a red umbrella, a skateboard, an origami… all objects with which Jonny has an emotional bond and that he wouldn’t trade for anything in the world.

Who is Giovanni Motta

Giovanni Motta, born in 1971, is an artist from Verona.

For Giovanni, making art is necessary, fun and healing at the same time. During our interview, he himself defined his passion as follows:

“Making art is the only way I know how to express my vision of the world and of the human being; the only medium that allows me to express myself freely without restraints and limits”.

For the artist, art is the only blank canvas ready to accommodate his ideas and emotions, the only universal language where all people can confront each other and take refuge without barriers.

His career

Giovanni Motta is self-taught. At the age of 21, he began working in the world of advertising, taking care of creative direction and leaving his personal projects in the background, but never abandoning them.

It was only a few years ago that the artist turned his professional career around and decided to devote himself exclusively and totally to what he loved most: art.

Since then, Giovanni has created many fascinating works, including NFTs, which have already been exhibited in several exhibitions, the most recent of which was at the Museo della Permanente in Milan.

The encounter with crypto art

Dedicating himself to crypto art was not a decision without context for the artist.

Motta had been working with 3D modelling programmes since way back in 2000 and approached the world of 3D printing in 2009.

So, in reality, technology and the digital approach have always been part of him. NFTs and the whole surrounding ecosystem have simply allowed him to give space and voice to his natural inclination.

Motta describes his first approach to digital art as follows:

“The involvement with crypto art was completely natural, like when you fall madly in love and everything seems fluid, intense, easy and beautiful.”

The subject of his works

The subject we often encounter in Giovanni Motta’s works is a cute, cartoonish child that the artist calls Jonny Boy.

Jonny Boy is a representation of the inner child of each of us, which we tend to forget and erase with the passage of time.

Giovanni, with his works, tries to explore and recall the feelings and emotions that every young boy feels when discovering the world.

Jonny always has the same expression in each work, which nevertheless encompasses three different states of mind: fear, which has a negative connotation, wonder, which has a positive outlook, and amazement, which is intermediate.

The observer, depending on their own state of mind, can mirror themselves in Jonny and feel understood.

Giovanni Motta’s future projects, exhibitions and NFTs

Giovanni Motta is currently busy with his first Crypto Art exhibitions. In fact, he took part both in the exhibition organized by the city of Lugano in mid-November and in the exhibition currently being held at the Museo della Permanente in Milan (DART).

As the artist himself reveals, his future projects are many. The main ones are as follows:

  • A digital manga divided into two issues, with Jonny Boy as the protagonist;
  • A solo exhibition in Shanghai, with 30 paintings and a three and a half metre high bronze sculpture of Jonny;
  • Another NFT work to be launched on SuperRare.
