The video game company has launched Ubisoft Quartz, the first platform for playable and energy-efficient NFTs in AAA games on the Tezos blockchain.
Tezos Blockchain Chose For Ubisoft Quartz
In a press statement released today, video game company Ubisoft announced the launch of the Ubisoft Quartz gaming platform, where players will be able to collect AAA-playable NFTs called Digits. These tokens will be launching as a limited edition collectible for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon® Breakpoint on Ubisoft Connect for Windows PC. Ubisoft has been delving into the world of blockchain technology through in-house R&D and collaborations with industry experts and specialists. The Quartz project is just another step in the company’s mission to leverage blockchain technology. Tezos, an energy-efficient blockchain running on a Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism, has been selected as the blockchain at the core of the gaming platform.
Blockchain Technical Director of Ubisoft, Didier Genevois, has spoken on the launch and why the team selected the Tezos blockchain.
“Energy efficiency is a key requirement to propel blockchain technology into a future where it can be widely used by millions of players. We chose Tezos because of its original Proof-of-Stake network and its leadership on clean NFTs…This low carbon footprint means that both our developers and our players can prioritize innovation without compromising sustainability.”
NFTs For Enhanced Gaming Experience
The Digits NFTs will also allow players to experience AAA quality assets. They will be able to own NFTs like in-game vehicles, weapons, and equipment pieces that create memorable gaming experiences for the gamers. One of the three USPs of these NFTs is that each Digit is a unique collectible with an original serial number visible in-game. The serial number also allows the tracking of previous and current owners, keeping a record of them, and contributing to the game’s world-building. The NFTs are also highly playable with active utility value. Players can use these Digits to personalize their gaming experience and leave their own personal signature and flair on accomplishing missions. Finally, as NFTs, these Digits come with a certificate of ownership stored on the blockchain, a decentralized network that retains transparency. Players can trade Digits even on other third-party platforms outside the Ubisoft ecosystem.
The VP of Ubisoft’s Strategy Innovation Lab, Nicolas Pouard, commented on the large scale project launched by the team,
“Our long-term efforts led us to understand how blockchain’s decentralized approach could genuinely make players stakeholders of our games, in a way that is also sustainable for our industry, placing back into their hands the value they generate through the time they spend, the items they buy or the content they create online. Ubisoft Quartz is the first building block in our ambitious vision for developing a true metaverse.”
