Reddit has announced the launch of profile images in NFT.
Reddit and NFTs
For the social network, this is the first approach to a market such as NFTs, which is becoming increasingly popular in many sectors, including the social one. After the first experimentation of Twitter, which launched the same service, defined by Elon Musk as annoying, now also Reddit tries to insert NFTs in profile images.
The social Reddit, founded in 2005 by Steve Huffman, is one of the most successful websites when it comes to discussions about technology, games, and finance.
Last year cryptocurrencies were one of the most discussed topics within the channels about technology and finance, and in the last months, there have been many debates about NFTs.
On the other hand, rumors that the social was ready to launch itself in the NFT market had already spread last October. Then a job ad published by the company gave foundation to such rumors:
“Our team is an exciting, fast-growing new team that aims to build the largest creative economy on the Internet, powered by independent creators, digital assets, and NFTs. We’re looking for strong engineers and leaders to help shape the team, set its strategy, and build the future. If you ask us, the NFT movement is just getting started, so come and join our team to get started.”
According to some experts, this announcement was a clear sign that the social was in the process of launching its own NFT platform.
On the other hand, as for Reddit’s plan to launch profile images in NFT, Iranian developer Nima Owji spoke about it in a tweet on January 21:

NFT for the new Facebook
On January 20, the Financial Times reported that Meta is exploring the possibility of its users being allowed to create, display and sell NFTs on Facebook and Instagram.
According to the FT, the plans would be “at an early stage and could still change.” The British financial newspaper writes that Facebook and Instagram teams are “preparing” a feature that will allow users to display NFTs as profile images, as well as working on a prototype to allow users to coin new NFTs.
According to some rumors, Mark Zuckerberg’s company, which has recently announced its commitment to the metaverse, would be seriously thinking about creating soon its own platform where users can buy and sell NFTs.
