Manchester United, one of the world’s most popular football teams, is about to announce a multi-year training kit sponsorship with Tezos (XTZ). According to The Athletic, the self-upgrading proof-of-stake blockchain’s logo will appear on the club’s training uniform for over $27 million annually.
The report also speculates that the two will collaborate in other technological undertakings such as the Metaverse and Web 3.0. The English Premier League (EPL) giant has reportedly finalized filming promotional material ahead of the public announcement.
Tezos adds on to its list of sports partnerships
Since its birth in 2018, Tezos has aggressively ventured into partnerships with various sports teams. In May 2021, RedBull Racing announced Tezos as its official blockchain partner. Shortly afterward, McLaren Racing signed a multi-year deal, making the network its official technical partner across its Formula 1, IndyCar, and esports teams. And in October that year, Tezos and McLaren Racing launched a collection of non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
If the reported deal is made official, Manchester United will become the latest English top division football club to venture into crypto and NFTs. Last August, Dogecoin (DOGE) sponsored Watford FC shirt sleeves for the 2021-2022 season. On the other hand, Manchester City, Arsenal, and Wolverhampton Wanderers launched fan tokens in conjunction with crypto platforms Socios and Bitci.
Baby Doge partners with German Football Club
In Germany, the top-tier football club TSG Hoffenheim recently made Baby DogeCoin (BabyDoge) an official partner. In an official announcement, Hoffenheim said the two will work together to create club-specific NFTs. The Doge-inspired meme coin will also appear on LED boards during the team’s home games, in addition to other co-branded content.
Mike Watson, Baby Doge’s project manager, said the deal would expand the coin’s coverage not only in the European Union but also in the global market. Baby Doge plans to form more strategic partnerships in the sports world as it establishes itself as a community-centered project.
“TSG Hoffenheim is happy to be working together with such an innovative and leading brand like Baby Doge. We are excited and looking forward to a successful partnership, where we’ll bring an NFT collection from the club and other exciting projects to life,” said Denni Strich, CEO of Hoffenheim.
Floki Inu (FLOKI), also a canine-inspired meme coin, scored a partnership agreement with Italian professional football club S.S.C. Napoli in November 2021. The deal saw the cryptocurrency’s logo displayed on the team’s jerseys and also on LED signs at the team’s home stadium, just like Baby Doge plans to do.
