Yesterday, Accenture officially announced the launch of Accenture Metaverse Continuum.

Accenture Metaverse Continuum targets enterprises

This is a new business group for enterprises dedicated to the metaverse and virtual reality. It will be led by Accenture CTO Paul Daugherty, and Accenture Interactive CEO David Droga.

According to a recent Accenture report, the Metaverse Continuum is redefining the way the world works, operates and interacts. The “Metaverse Continuum” refers to a spectrum of digitally enhanced worlds, realities and business models.

In such a scenario, companies would already be on their way to a future very different from the one in which they were created, steeped in new technologies such as extended reality, blockchain, digital twin and edge computing. The convergence of these technologies is creating a new environment in which companies will have to operate in the future.

Accenture’s mission

The company wants to help companies take advantage of this opportunity, which is why it has launched its new business group for enterprises dedicated to the Metaverse Continuum.

Accenture is a global professional services company with a focus on digital, cloud and security, with the world’s largest network of smart operations centres and advanced technology.

According to Paul Daugherty, the next generation of the Internet is already unfolding, bringing a new wave of digital transformation, far greater than we have seen to date.

He stated:

“Our vision of the metaverse as a continuum challenges prevailing, narrower views and highlights why organizations must act today, or find themselves operating in worlds designed by, and for, someone else”.

It is therefore a process in the making, which has only just begun, but which may in fact sooner or later force more or less all companies to face it. In such scenarios, which have been seen in the past, the ones who usually benefit most are the pioneers who decide to ride the wave first. This may be the reason why Accenture is starting this new metaverse now.

The impact of the metaverse on companies

According to a recent survey, 71% of executives already believe the metaverse will have a positive impact on their organization, and 42% believe it will be a game changer or transformation.

In fact, companies have already started to take an interest in the opportunities offered by these new technologies, but very few are already taking concrete action to exploit the incoming wave.

Accenture, for example, already runs its own metaverse, where staff participate in orientation for new hires and immersive learning. This year the company expects at least 150,000 new hires to work in the metaverse on their first day.

Daugherty added:

“As the line between people’s physical and digital lives further blurs, organizations have the opportunity and obligation now to build a responsible metaverse — addressing issues like trust, sustainability, personal safety, privacy, responsible access and use, diversity and more. The actions and choices they make today will set the stage for the future”.
