The latest idea from the Vienna Tourist Board is to put Sigmund Freud’s avatar in the Decentraland metaverse.
Users will be able to chat with the psychoanalyst and win a trip to the Austrian capital.
Sigmund Freud in the Decentraland metaverse to win a trip to Vienna
The Vienna Tourist Board, the Austrian capital’s tourist board, has succeeded in introducing the new avatar of Sigmund Freud into the Decentraland metaverse.
“Get me out, Freud!” The Vienna Tourist Board sends a #Freud avatar to the #metaverse, where it encourages people to take a break from the virtual world. Anyone who gets in touch with Freud has the chance to win a trip to the real world in #Vienna https://t.co/iwNppPD4BD

“‘Get me out, Freud!’ The Vienna Tourist Board sends a Freud avatar to the metaverse, where it encourages people to take a break from the virtual world. Anyone who gets in touch with Freud has the chance to win a trip to the real world in Vienna.”
The project has been created in collaboration with agency Jung von Matt Donau and the Sigmund Freud Museum Vienna and will see Freud appear on Decentraland’s Genesis Plaza virtual platform, every Monday and Friday from 5pm to 7pm BST (1-3pm ET) until 29 April.
Users can chat with the avatar of the founder of psychoanalysis to gain entry into a competition for a chance to win one of 10 free trips to Vienna or one of 100 free admissions to the Sigmund Freud Museum.
People can also register on the campaign website to chat with Freud.
Vienna Tourist Board’s marketing strategies now travel in the metaverse
According to reports, Norbert Kettner, the director of the Vienna Tourist Board issued a press release stating the following:
“The stunt is designed to allow us all to take a breather, if you will, that this generation of hype-seekers and Instagram travellers is lacking. We want to bring real, physical enjoyment back. Connecting to a place through real travel experiences is an important path towards that, even if we are soliciting the help of a virtual platform.”
Indeed, it’s really about using Decentraland’s blockchain-based metaverse to approach younger people and draw them into the world of “real travel”, the physical kind, to the Austrian capital.
The Vienna Tourist Board is no stranger to original marketing strategies. With the same aim of attracting tourists to Vienna, the Vienna Tourist Board had brought naked works of art from the city’s museums to the OnlyFans website.
Decentraland and the launch of Absolut Land
Another collaboration last week saw the metaverse of Decentraland and Absolut Vodka launch Absolut Land on 15 April.

An advertising campaign that allows participating users to win exclusive items, or two tickets to the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California.
Earlier this year, the metaverse on blockchain had already hosted Metaverse Fashion Week full of participating brands, artists and designers, as well as Heineken’s famous Silver Beer, the first pixel-based beer.
