“Education is power”: this is the opening of the mission of the new program “The Bitcoin Academy”, launched by Jack Dorsey, former CEO of Twitter and current founder of Block Inc. together with rapper JAY-Z (Shawn Carter).
Here is Dorsey’s Twitter announcement:

“Mr Shawn Carter and I are funding The Bitcoin Academy, a program for residents of Marcy Houses in Brooklyn New York where Jay grew up, designed in collaboration with @CryptoPlug3 and @BlkBTCBillions”.
Basically, the new program is dedicated to the residents of the Marcy Houses, in Brooklyn, New York, where Jay-Z grew up, with the goal of expanding in the near future. Not only that, The Bitcoin Academy was designed in collaboration with Crypto Blockchain Plug with Najah J. Roberts and Black Bitcoin Billionaire with Lamarr Wilson.
Continuing with his tweets, Dorsey also said:
“Bitcoin is becoming a critical tool for many in Africa and Central and South America. We believe the same potential exists within communities in the US. Our goal is to prove that making powerful tools more available to people enables them to build greater independence”.

The courses will be offered online and in-person from 22 June to 7 September to all Marcy residents who wish to participate. The in-person classes will be held two evenings a week and dinner will be served.
Not only that, program participants will receive MiFi devices and a one-year limited data plan, as well as smartphones if needed. Residents can keep the devices.
In addition, there is also the dedicated children’s plan, the “Crypto Kids Camp” that will take place on two Saturdays for Marcy children and teens between the ages of 5 and 17.
Jay-Z also commented on The Bitcoin Academy on Twitter, emphasizing the goal of teaching and empowering the community to build financial independence:
Shout out to @Jack. #Bitcoin Academy, starting in Marcy, a place that taught me so much, is hopefully the first of many. The simple goal is to provide people tools to build independence for themselves and then the community around them. https://t.co/4uHkCfdFZv

Block’s open-source ASIC for Bitcoin mining
In addition to financial education, Dorsey has recently been involved in Bitcoin mining, with his company Block (formerly Square) apparently proposing to build a dedicated open-source ASIC.
Block’s new Bitcoin mining system aims to improve the availability, reliability and performance of the mining industry.
So far, there has been no evidence of the launch of the open-source ASIC, but the project seems likely to start soon.
