After two years of development, Wasabi Wallet 2.0 is finally being released.
Wasabi Wallet version 2.0 released today
The new interface was unveiled almost a year ago, but now the new release of one of the most popular high-privacy Bitcoin wallets is finally ready to hit the market.
What has changed is primarily the user interface, which has become more user-friendly, but new features have also been introduced.
In particular, coinjoins are now automated and more efficient, with a simpler fee structure and incentives for proper use of the wallet. One of these for example is the free remix after a hop (excluding network fees).
Automated coinjoins are probably the biggest novelty, in addition to the more user-friendly user interface, because they allow even those with no experience in this respect to carry out transactions with a high level of privacy.
In addition, this version 2.0 represents a substantial improvement over the previous version because it no longer requires users to pay a minimum amount in order to carry out high-privacy transactions.
Since all Bitcoin’s on-chain transactions are public, there is always the risk that someone can trace the sender, even though his or her name is never publicly recorded on the blockchain. Coinjoins make it much more difficult to trace the user of an on-chain transaction, thus raising the level of privacy.
It is worth mentioning that using Lightning Network, transactions are not really made public, because they are not recorded on the blockchain. LN is mainly used for transactions of small amounts, as it inevitably provides a lower level of security.
Larger or more important transactions are still written in an immutable way on the public blockchain, so that they are verifiable by anyone in an obvious and indisputable way, but this reduces the level of privacy. Coinjoins are precisely one of the existing techniques to make it much more difficult to trace the senders of on-chain transactions.
Wasabi’s developers still expect many improvements to be implemented
Developers at Wasabi say they believe the software is never really ready, so much so that they claim there is still a lot of work to be done, but they are confident that the version 2.0 developed so far is now ready to be used on Bitcoin’s mainnet.
Release day should be today, Wednesday 15 June 2022, and for those who already have the previous version 1.0, all they need to do is upgrade.

The same developers also note that they await feedback from users and the community regarding the new version, as they believe it can always be improved.
