Leading alternative investment firm Investcorp has appointed former executive of digital bank ING Hervé François as the new lead of the firm’s inaugural blockchain-focused fund.

François says that he has joined Investcorp as a new partner after his resignation from ING last month, where he was the head of digital assets at the Amsterdam-based firm for more than seven years.

He says that he will be the new head of eLydian Lion, Investcorp’s institutional blockchain fund led from the firm’s Abu Dhabi office.

“After a decade spent at ING Bank, I am thrilled to announce that I have joined Investcorp, a leading global alternative investments firm, as Partner where I lead the institutional blockchain dedicated fund from Abu Dhabi office (UAE).”

The new fund will invest in startups that focus on blockchain and related web 3.0 projects and technologies such as crypto exchanges, decentralized finance (DeFi) and data analytics.

“I can’t wait to meet some promising early-stage startups around blockchain infrastructure, blockchain interoperability and scaling solution, web2 to web3 transition, DeFi, Metaverse, Play To Earn / NFTs.”

eLydian Lion is the first dedicated institutional blockchain fund based in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). As of June 30th, Investcorp holds $42.7 billion in assets under management.
