In a male-dominated industry like blockchain and cryptocurrency, it’s important to have strong female voices leading the charge. Rosalinda Rivera is one such leader, and she is the Executive Director of Operations of Philcoin. In this exclusive interview, she discusses her work with Philcoin and her views on the lack of representation of women in the crypto industry. She is all about woman empowerment in the male-dominated industry, and she offers some great advice for business owners looking to get into crypto.
Hi Rosalinda, thanks for taking the time to answer these questions. We’d like to know a little more about you and about Philcoin. How would you like to introduce yourself to us?Hi, I’m Rosalinda Rivera, Executive Director of Philcoin, businesswoman, and philanthropist. Thank you for the opportunity to share my story, along with my thoughts on the industry.
How did you get interested in crypto and why are you so passionate about it? While driving down 95 South during the heat of the pandemic from New York City to Richmond Virginia, I flipped on the radio just in time to catch a podcast featuring Randi Zuckerburg. The interviewer asked Randi what was the next biggest thing, and she mentioned angel investing and Cryptocurrency. I had heard of Bitcoin but I really had no clue how to get it or what it really was for that matter. I decided to open my first account on Coinbase and began investing. I thought to myself: “I’ll buy $50 dollars; what have I got to lose”. Then, I found Etoro and, boy, that is where I took off. I started buying and selling and making a profit. I became one of the few women trading on the platform. Fast forward a few years later, I was invited to jump on a private zoom with leaders around the world and the founders of Philcoin: Jerry Lopez and Dunstan Teo. They offered me an opportunity to join the team. And here I am. To say I am hooked on crypto would be an understatement. I am an avid believer in its possibilities and future.
Can you tell us a little bit about your work with Philcoin?Philcoin is a philanthropic ecosystem that’s changing the way giving happens. At the heart of our ecosystem is a super app called PHILApp which is where our community can donate, earn rewards, chat, play games, access educational resources, join social channels, and more. Every part of our organization has been built to help neutralize global wealth. As the Executive Director of Operations, it’s my passion to make crypto, usable, accessible, and transactional in every community and to change the world together – one person and family at a time.
There is a lack of representation of women in the cryptocurrency industry. What do you think is the reason for this?I feel that women are typically more cautious than men when it comes to new opportunities. Crypto is still new to some – it’s rebellious by nature and women may see this as risky.
How do you think the lack of diversity affects the crypto community? I believe the lack of diversity contributes to crypto’s rebellious and seemingly aggressive nature. Women, and their maternal attributes, bring a state of calm, understanding, and empathy to any organization or sector.
What benefits would there be for increasing the number of women in the crypto industry?
It all boils down to education and mentorship. It’s my desire to open doors for more young girls to have an interest in the field of technology. Mentorship has been a big part of my life and I am passionate about sharing my wisdom with others. If more women in crypto were to follow suit by mentoring young women, we will certainly see greater representation in the field.
What are your thoughts on the future of cryptocurrency?
Well, it simply takes one click of a button on any news site to see where crypto is headed. We’re seeing large corporations embrace crypto and welcome new, innovative ways of generating revenue, offering solutions to customers, and expanding their product suites. In the past few months, we’ve seen restaurant chains, hotels, airlines, and more, all making headlines for their adoption of crypto. The time is now to get on the bus. I am adamant we’re going to see game-changing products from the crypto space – all destined to better lives across the world.
What advice would you give to businesses that are looking to get into cryptocurrency?
Crypto is truly a space where you can be your most authentic, creative, and visionary self. It’s an atmosphere where anyone can thrive.
