- PIPE a decentralized storage solution by TangleHub has recently invited members to experience a firsthand demo of its product.
- PIPE solves some of the key issues of handling micro-edge storage, scalable high bandwidth and high-frequency data storage use cases.
On Wednesday, November 16, TangleHub announced that they are expanding testing for PIPE, its open-source decentralized storage and transfer infrastructure for different data use cases. This involves testing edge micro-storage solutions, to high-frequency IoT as well as high-volume data applications.
TangleHub said that they have invited all Touchpoint members to experience firsthand the demo of their decentralized storage.
@PIPE_DATA is expanding testing with all Touchpoint members invited to join the test round and experience firsthand our demo for decentralized storage.
This is where it all begins!

Decentralized storage solutions have been in demand for a while and PIPE exactly caters to users’ needs. It is secure, scalable, fast, and gives users ultimate control over their data. Besides, it can easily store and transfer data with data channels anchored to IOTA Tangle.
PIPE also ensures the optimal usage of the IOTA Tangle consensus by separating throughput from the trust. Using PIPE, users can gain access to as much decentralized storage as they need to immutably store data just via a single message on the IOTA Tangle.
The good thing about PIPE is that in addition to making data use cases cheaper and much more scalable, it also makes them faster. But when the IOTA network is capable of storing data, what’s the use of PIPE? TangleHub explains that “IOTA has some practical limits that prohibit scalable high bandwidth and high frequency data storage use cases”.
PIPE provides flexibility to data storage
While IOTA has introduced interesting solutions like the Tangle technology and the Stardust storage solutions, it doesn’t provide enough flexibility. Since IOTA has a hard limit on the number of transactions that Tangle can handle, storing data-heavy applications becomes infeasible since the cost of congestion would kill the use case.
As of present, both byte cost and mana are relatively affordable at low IOTA token prices. But as per TangleHub, these costs will differ as the token price would increase with IOTA becoming more successful.
Through its detailed calculations, TangleHub showed that it would be impractical to move large amounts of data through the Tangle. “What is possible for now could become impossible in the future,” it added.
Also, the total throughput of the Tangle will be in Mbps which will be insufficient for real-world data Dapp use cases. Thus, too many heavy data use cases could clog the Tangle network. As a result, in high frequency and high bandwidth data storage applications such as smart cities, smart manufacturing, supply chain, and supply chain tracking, Tangle lacks in capacity.
PIPE comes to overcome all these bottlenecks by giving users back control over their data. Scalability, immutable data storage and transfer, user-oriented design and performance, etc. are some of the key attributes of PIPE. Furthermore, the PIPE token makes sure that anyone can store data and offer data storage.
IOTA Tangle and PIPE can work in synergy
While IOTA Tangle technology focuses on serving DeFi and smart contracts, PIPE will cater to the requirements of decentralized data storage. Also, without worrying about the need of storing large data, IOTA can work efficiently.
The decentralized storage solutions by PIPE offer the same basic functions as available in existing solutions like Filecoin. However, it further addresses key issues of speed, scalability, and affordable storage solution.
