- The GoShimmer Network has been running flawlessly amid heavy testing and debugging by the IOTA team.
- ShimmerEVM will go live this quarter followed by the launch of IOTA 2.0 in the subsequent quarter.
Two major projects have been lined up for the IOTA ecosystem this year in 2023. The first is the launch of the ShimmerEVM expected to happen in the first quarter. This will further pave the way for meeting the second goal i.e. introducing IOTA 2.0 infrastructure in the market.
Over the last week, the IOTA developers have been testing the GoShimmer DevNet and the latest data shows that it’s been running flawlessly so far with almost no downtime. The IOTA team is conducting heavy testing and debugging and noted that the in-memory conflict PR is working with a lot of bugs being fixed.

With these efforts by developers, the GoShimmer network is becoming more and more resilient against extreme scenarios and with super high amounts of conflicts spammed. The team stated that they are working to achieve a high test coverage on critical components.
The team updated that the “engine switching” PR has been merged and is running successfully for days now. As a result, the developer team will now focus on “cleaning up”. Ultimately, the team is now preparing for the shift of the MVP tech to Shimmer.
This would basically mean that the GoShimmer IOTA 2.0 protocol will see the addition of Hornet capabilities in a step-by-step manner.
ShimmerEVM and IOTA 2.0
Since the launch of the Shimmer Network last September 2022, the IOTA team has been working on the launch of ShimmerEVM now. ShimmerNet’s lead contributor Dominik Schiener recently spoke about some key developments such as introducing EVM-compatible smart contracts to ShimmerNet.
The IOTA team is planning to launch the ShimmerEVM with multi-node support which will make sure that it will run smoothly. Besides, the launch of the ShimmerEVM testnet will make it easier in deploying decentralized applications (dApps) thereby resulting in greater community participation. The IOTA team is working on launching ShimmerEVM by Q1 2023 which has already reached a production-ready stage.
As per the current timeline, the IOTA 2.0 shall go live by mid-2023. The IOTA 2.0 will host a feeless architecture with the ability to process several thousand transactions within seconds. Thus, it will support the creation of new business models that leverage micro-transactions. IOTA 2.0 will ensure that the transfer of data and value between humans and machines will be secured.
