Over the past year, Layer-2s have seen a dramatic rise in daily active addresses, growing from 27% of Ethereum’s active addresses to over 157%, largely due to the launch of new L2s like Base, zkSync, and PolygonZk. These rollups have eased Ethereum’s scaling challenges, offering transaction costs at roughly 10% of Ethereum’s. However, not all rollups have enjoyed uniform growth. The pursuit of airdrops in their pre-token states has introduced significant inorganic activity, clouding the true product-market fit of each rollup. To better understand which ecosystems are genuinely gaining traction, it’s useful to filter out Sybil addresses and analyze underlying metrics like active addresses.
