Tesla did not make any Bitcoin transactions in the last quarter of 2023 (or Q4 2023). However, the company led by Elon Musk remains the third largest publicly listed holder of bitcoin, with over $387 million in BTC.
Tesla did not make any Bitcoin purchases in Q4 2023
According to reports, it seems that the electric car giant, Tesla, did not make any buy or sell transactions of its Bitcoin in the last quarter of 2024 (or Q4 2023).
This means that the company led by Elon Musk has not changed its holdings in Bitcoin, valued at $387 million at current prices.
And indeed, Tesla remains the holder of over 9,720 BTC, which puts it in third place as the largest publicly traded Bitcoin holder.
On the podium of listed companies holding BTC, Tesla (TSLA) is behind software company MicroStrategy (MSTR) and mining operator Marathon (MARA).
But this strategy by Tesla’s holder is just a repetition. In fact, last October 2023, the clean energy automotive giant had revealed that it had not parted ways with its 312 million dollars of Bitcoin even in Q3 2023.
The same thing happened in Q1 2023 and in Q2 2023. Apparently, Tesla is demonstrating its lasting “faith” in the digital asset, amidst market fluctuations and corporate financial dynamics.
Tesla and Bitcoin: the BTC investments of the company led by Elon Musk
Tesla would have invested $1.5 billion in bitcoin in February 2021, accumulating approximately 43,000 BTC.
In that same month, Elon Musk had announced that from that moment it was possible to purchase Tesla cars using Bitcoin (BTC) as a form of payment.
In May 2021, the issue of excessive energy consumption for Bitcoin mining, which damages the environment, had led the same company of sustainable machines to suspend such BTC payments.
By the second quarter (or Q2) of 2022, Tesla had announced that it had sold 75% of the bitcoins it owned.
For this just ended 2023, however, it seems that Tesla is not making any Bitcoin (BTC) transactions throughout the year, revealing its position as a BTC holder.
