- DNV GL and Renji Hospital renew partnership following years of collaboration with the VeChain blockchain.
- DNV and Renji’s partnership is said to be entering the seventh year, showing their commitment to enhancing quality healthcare.
In October 2020, VeChain (VET) in collaboration with the independent assurance and risk management provider DNV GL, announced a strategic partnership with Renji Hospital, one of the biggest hospitals in China affiliated with the Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine to launch the first-ever Intelligent Tumor Treatment Center enabled by blockchain. This treatment center powered by the VeChain Toolchain is meant to be a “transparent, efficient, and traceable medical management solution.”
The partnership was also meant to leverage the advantages that come with a VeChain blockchain as well as the professional service of the DNV GL. The core motive was to enable patients to have control over medical record management. On top of that, both internal and external research institutions would be able to use authorized data to improve clinical research, while regulatory agencies make full use of conducting business compliance checks on medical institutions as well as credit evaluation systems.
George Kang, Senior Vice President of DNV GL Group spoke on this:
The launch of the Intelligent Tumor Treatment Centre intends to enhance the high-quality integrated development of Renji Hospital. Moving forward, Renji intends to boost our healthcare facilities with more blockchain-powered use cases and projects, which will be gradually disclosed together with our partners when the time is right.

It is important to note that Renji Hospital started the process of certifying its international outpatient program to DNV’s quality standards in January 2017. The initial evaluation to earn the DNV certification was passed in April 2018, enabling the international outpatient clinic to improve the quality of service. The current renewal of the partnership is said to be a testament to the commitment of both parties to enhance international medical quality certification.
After the 2020 partnership, George Kang, Senior Vice President of DNV GL Group commented that the collaboration is all about the improvement of quality.
Through independent and objective medical evaluation methods, DNV GL intends to provide more services for Renji Hospital to improve its service quality and medical experience, moving to a new stage of higher standards, higher requirements, and higher quality.
This initiative is reportedly in line with the Chinese government’s 14th Five-Year (2021-2025) Plan for Economic and Social Development. It can be recalled that the National Health Commission came up with a guideline, reemphasizing blockchain technology as a very important innovation and integration into the medical and health industry.
By using the self-developed one-stop data BaaS platform VeChain ToolChainTM, we have many proven cases in the medical sector, including a blockchain-powered Clinical Trial Traceability Platform for Bayer China, and a blockchain-enabled medical data management platform named The E-NewHealthLife for Mediterranean Hospital of Cyprus. Facing new demands for digital transformation brought by COVID-19, VeChain, together with DNV GL, will be seeking more opportunities to create more high-efficiency and low-cost digital solutions for the medical industry.
