Police say two women just used their roommate’s dead body to withdraw cash from the deceased victim’s U.S. Bank account.
Karen Casbohm and Loreen Feralo allegedly found their 80 year-old roommate Douglas Layman dead in their house on Monday and decided to drive his body to the bank, reports Fox 8 News in Cleveland, Ohio.
Authorities say the pair propped Layman in the front seat of their car and went to the bank’s drive through, knowing that the lender would allow the withdrawal upon seeing Layman in the vehicle.
After successfully executing a $900 withdrawal, the pair allegedly dropped Layman’s body off at a nearby hospital.
Casbohm and Feralo are now facing felony charges of theft and gross abuse of a corpse in what police chief Robert Stell describes as a very unusual and unfortunate situation.
“This is unusual for all of us. In my 28 years in law enforcement it’s the first time I’ve seen something quite like this.”
Prosecuting Attorney Cecilia Cooper says the three lived together but are not relatives, and each charge could carry a one year prison sentence.
Police say their investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed.
