You are currently viewing Optimism Integrates Chainlink SCALE: Full Service Now Live on OP Mainnet

  • By joining the Chainlink Scale program, Optimism developers can access Chainlink’s high-quality Oracle services at a reduced cost.
  • The integration is expected to significantly improve decentralized finance (DeFi), gaming, and other blockchain applications by providing faster, more secure tools for connecting Web2 data to Web3 apps.

Optimism has officially announced the integration of three key Chainlink services into its OP Mainnet. These include Chainlink Data Streams, Chainlink Functions, and Chainlink Verifiable Random Function (VRF). With this collaboration, Optimism is also entering the Chainlink Scale program, which aims to support the long-term adoption and sustainable growth of OP Mainnet.

A Look At Optimism & Chainlink’s Collaboration

OP Mainnet is a layer-2 blockchain built using Optimism’s OP Stack. It is designed to offer a scalable and cost-effective solution while still enjoying Ethereum’s robust security framework. The integration provides developers with access to more advanced Chainlink tools that are designed to create scalable and feature-rich decentralized applications, or dApps, reported CNF.

“Optimism joining Chainlink Scale and the Chainlink standard being natively available to developers on OP Mainnet is a great step for the ecosystem,” stated Johann Eid, Chief Business Officer at Chainlink Labs. He further noted:

Bridging the gap between Web2 and Web3 with Functions will allow for more growth and adoption, Data Streams will enable ultra-fast yet secure DeFi apps, and VRF will level up the integrity of blockchain-based games and other on-chain apps leveraging verifiable randomness.

By participating in the Scale program, Optimism developers tap into Chainlink’s high-quality Oracle services at a cost temporarily offset by the program. With the growing ecosystem of Optimism, so too will the user fees generated by dApps, which will eventually cover this cost.

Significance Of The Latest Partnership

Marine Andraud, Infrastructure Partnership Lead at Optimism Unlimited, emphasized the importance of the partnership. He stated, “We joined Chainlink Scale to make the Chainlink standard available to Optimism ecosystem developers, empowering them to build the best applications.”

He added, “Chainlink Functions will streamline the experience of connecting Web2 data into Web3 apps on OP Mainnet, Data Streams will support the creation of advanced, secure, and low-latency DeFi apps, and VRF will support high-integrity apps.”

Optimism’s OP Stack is an open-source and standardized framework for launching layer-2 blockchains. This approach simplifies the development process for creating production-ready networks similar to OP Mainnet. Hence, the inclusion of Chainlink services is expected to enhance dApp capabilities, particularly in decentralized finance (DeFi), gaming, and other blockchain-based solutions.

For further context, Chainlink is a well-known leader in the on-chain finance domain and has enabled over $17 trillion in transaction value within the blockchain industry. It has also been the leader in driving the industry growth for tokenized assets in Q3 2024, per the CNF report. It serves as a strong partner to bring verifiable data to fruition and ensure cross-chain interoperability, which is in line with how Optimism will scale its network to further the adoption of blockchain technology.
