Thousands of dollars will be paid out per person under a proposed class action settlement involving a US health care provider that suffered a cybersecurity incident in May 2024.

The settlement arises from a data breach incident at Northeast Rehabilitation Hospital in New Hampshire about two years ago, when an unauthorized entity gained access to certain files containing sensitive personal, financial and medical information.

Settlement documents show that the files may have contained details like names, medical histories and treatment information, patient account numbers, physician information, prescription information, medical billing/claims information, Social Security numbers, credit card information, financial account information and other sensitive data.

Individuals who have documentation of out-of-pocket expenses or financial losses directly related to the cybersecurity event may receive reimbursement of up to $5,000. Those without documented losses can instead claim a one-time payment of $75.

The case is still pending in the Superior Court of Rockingham County, New Hampshire.

The hospital has denied any wrongdoing and highlights that the court has not ruled on the merits of the claims. But Northeast Rehabilitation Hospital says it agreed to the settlement to avoid the cost, disruption and uncertainty of continued litigation.

Claims must be submitted online or postmarked by February 17th, 2026. The court is slated to hold a final approval hearing on March 2nd, 2026.
